For many years Eaton Corp and Westinghouse Electric Co manufactured competitive molded-case circuit breakers under their respective Cutler Hammer and Westinghouse circuit breaker brand names. However, in the 1990s the Cleveland-based Eaton Corp bought the Pittsburgh-based Westinghouse electrical distribution business and merged it with its Cutler Hammer division. Any former Westinghouse circuit breakers or Cutler Hammer breakers that are still in production are now sold under the Cutler Hammer brand name only. However, as a well established brand name, Westinghouse is still very active. When someone needs to replace installed Westinghouse circuit breakers, there will, hopefully, be new Cutler Hammer breakers to replace them (with either the same Part# or a superceding Part#). But if the installed Westinghouse breakers have been obsoleted and if there are no current-series Cutler Hammer breakers to replace them, the customer may have to consider buying quality used Westinghouse breakers instead of current-series Cutler Hammer breakers.
